MIRI: The Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) fully agrees with the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s speech in Marudi on Wednesday, that there are people out there seeking to destroy Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and its unity amongst the four component parties; PBB, SUPP, PRS and PDP.

“We are very encouraged and take comfort that the Chief Minister had made a strong stance that loyalty to Sarawak is more important than loyalty to any individual including himself,” said SUPP secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting Yew Chiew in a press statement yesterday.

Ting further added, those who attended the function in Marudi that day would likely guess or know who Abang Johari was referring to, even though no names or political party was mentioned.

“Indeed, for those who were not at the function, they would also be able to form an opinion as to who the Chief Minister was referring to, when they read the news and or watched part of the video recording of the Chief Minister’s speech.

“The tone of his voice and body language would tell all, the fire and anger when the word ‘termites’ was mentioned, not once but couple of times, as if to emphasise or reiterate of his clear message to all Sarawakians,” he opined.

He pointed out that SUPP believes this trait of pledging full loyalty to Sarawak is ever more crucial considering that now more foreign political parties from outside Sarawak are seeking to control the state’s future and they are not necessary more than loyal to Sarawak than their own homeland.

“The four component parties of GPS should not allow and must not tolerate such “termites” into the coalition, not now, not ever.

“It is a clear and direct message from the Chief Minister that such ‘termites’ are not welcomed in GPS.

“But the big question is… are there any ‘termites’ who are members of the present GPS cabinet? What if they are? What should be the solution?  Will they do honourable thing to tender their resignations to our Chief Minister?” Ting asked.

Most people are of the opinion that they are most unlikely to tender their resignations, for if they do they will be admitting that they are the “termites”, he said.

Ting further added, “In politics and in anything else, time is always of the essence.  More so as we are now embarking on the greater rural development of Sarawak with the biggest budget allocation such development this year.

“Sarawak GPS government cannot allow unnecessary disturbances and disruptions to the ongoing implementations of such projects.

“People on the ground are terribly confused. That being the case, urgent and prompt action must be taken if there are ‘termites’ in GPS government.
