MIRI: Several roads in Miri city will be temporarily closed on Saturday (March 9) in conjunction with Miri City Car-Free Day. The affected roads are Jalan North Yu Seng, Jalan Merpati, a section of Jalan Persekutuan, Jalan Kipas, Jalan Sylvia and Jalan Parry.

The temporary closure will commence from 5.30 am until 11.00 am.

The Miri City Council (MCC) advised motorists to plan their journey well and prepare for other road options to reach their destination due to the half-day road closure.

“Apart from stationing traffic wardens, appropriate traffic diversion road signs will also be put up at the site to facilitate motorists in the road diversion,” it said in a press release.

MCC also cautions members of the public that should there be a high volume of visitors attending the event at the affected road closure, parking lots would be limited.

To mitigate the parking jam, motorists have the options to park their vehicles at these designated car parks: Jalan Ansellia, Jalan Zinnia, Jalan Calliandra, Jalan Helenium and Jalan Unus.

Members of the public are invited to join the Car-Free Day and be part of a global effort to reduce traffic and improve air quality by taking greener trips.

A series of fun activities such as Zumba, Tai Chi, fun walk, fun games and lucky draws will be organised on that day.
