KOTA SAMARAHAN: Sarawakian jobseekers prefer companies that offer better human growth aspirations, according to the latest JobStreet Malaysia survey.

JobStreet Malaysia revealed this during the unveiling of its Top 10 Preferred Companies 2019 among its registered Sarawakian jobseekers — oil giant Petronas remains the most sought-after employer today by jobseekers from Sarawak.

From data gathered from over 1,125 Sarawakian jobseekers, the online survey found that oil and gas companies are the most preferred companies, which highlights company reputation as the top feature for jobseekers when applying job.

Highlighting on employees and job seeker selection criteria for companies, the country manager of JobStreet Malaysia, Gan Bock Herm said jobseekers strongly preferred companies based on their human resource aspirations at all position levels.

“This means that the employees and jobseekers prefer more job opportunities that encourage for personal development and skills,” he said at the launching of HR Networking Event Sarawak (HRNE 2019) at the Centre for Academic Institution (CAIS) here in Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), today.

He revealed that Shell and Sarawak Energy were in the top three spots, along with Cahaya Mata Sarawak and AirAsia, ranked fourth and fifth respectively.

Maybank, Naim Holdings Bhd, Shin Yang Group of Companies, Petros and Sime Darby are among the top 10 companies highly sought-after by local jobseekers.

Gan said the survey presented vital information for companies to understand the key factors that influenced Sarawakian job applications.

“As reflected in the Top 10 Companies 2019 survey, the area of employee development presents a great opportunity both for hirers and talent.

“In fact, five out of the top 10 companies which Sarawakians jobseekers aspire to work for are indeed Sarawakian companies. This is proof of the ability of local companies to compete with foreign multinational corporations to attract and retain talent,” he added.

The event was enlivened with an award presentation ceremony for JobStreet’s Top 10 Employers of Choice in Sarawak, which was presented by senior director of Centre for Student Development Unimas, Prof Dr Siti Raudzah Ghazali.

HRNE 2019 is jointly organised by Unimas and JobStreet in conjunction with this year’s Talent Recruitment And Career Exhibition (TRACE 2019) which will be held from April 10-11 at DeTaR Putra Hall Unimas from 8am until 5pm.
