SWP president calls it a day

KUCHING: Munan Laja has announced his resignation as president of Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) with immediate effect.

He said he has submitted his letter of resignation to the party’s secretary office at 8am on Thursday.

“For the time being, I wish to take a break from politics and I am giving way to others to lead,” he told New Sarawak Tribune.

He also took the opportunity to thank his party members, supreme council, youth and women wings for their support and co-operation rendered to him during his tenure.

When asked on a successor, Munan said he was leaving it to the party to decide.

“They will decide who will be the acting president until the official party election latest by December this year,” he said.

Munan said he will going back to the longhouse to begin opening up his land for agriculture activities.

Munan, 59, is a Iban from Song. He has held the post of SWP president since 2015.

He was also the deputy president of Sarawak Dayak Iban Association (Sadia) from 2004 until he tendered his resignation on August 10, 2019.

SWP is splinter party of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) formed in 2012, led by Larry Sng who had left the party in 2016.
