KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has congratulated Nauraj Singh Randhawa (pic) for breaking the national indoor high jump record.

Syed Saddiq said in his Twitter account: “Congrats @Navraj40 #MalaysiaBoleh.”

The 27-year-old Johor athlete cleared 2.19 metres to finish second in the 21st Erdgas Indoor Athletics Championships in Chemnitz, Germany, on Sunday.

It erased the old mark of 2.15m jointly held by Lou Cwee Peng and Lee Hup Wei.

Cwee Peng set the previous record at the 1993 World Championships in Toronto, Canada, before Hup Wei equalled it twice in 2012 in Ostrava, Czech Republic, and in Vienna, Austria. – Bernama
