KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud today presented the 10th Sarawak Literature Awards during a ceremony in Demak Jaya.

In the brief ceremony, Taib presented certificates for the Sarawak Writer Award in the Iban Language category to Janang Ensiring; the Sarawak Short Story and Novel Genre Writer Award to Abang Median Abang Said; the Sarawak Poetry Genre Writer Award and Critical Essay to Ja’afar Hamdan; Special Language and Literature Award to the late Awang Bujang Awang Hamdan and the State Literary Award to Zainal Abidin Suhaili.

At the ceremony, Janang was represented by his son Fenwix Avang Janang while the late Awang Bujang was represented by his heir Normah Nazari.

Prior to that, Taib received a courtesy call from the committee members of the 10th Sarawak Literary Awards Council led by Education, Science and Technological Research Assistant Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee.

Also present were Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Ragad Kurdi Taib, Deputy State Secretary (Performance Transformation and Service Delivery) Datuk Dr Sabariah Putit and director of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Sarawak Abang Haliman Abang Julai.
