KUCHING: The role of women within the machinery of the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) was acknowledged by the late former Governor Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud in advocating for rights for the welfare of the community.

Women, Early Childhood and Community Well-being Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said women play an important role in achieving success in the party.

“Therefore, we are grateful to the late Tun Taib for giving women the opportunity to be involved in the PBB.

“At the same time, believe in our (women’s) potential to work together to balance the progress of the state and make Sarawak prosperous,” she said.

She said this when speaking at the Sarawak Kita Empun (SKE) 2.0 programme held at Wisma Sabati Auditorium here on Sunday.

Commenting on the programme organised by the PBB Women Supreme Council, Fatimah expressed her confidence that it would benefit women by exposing them to the political developments in the state.

She believed that the sharing sessions on the political landscape and initiatives by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government, the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, and others, can broaden women’s minds to actively participate in advancing Sarawak.

“Through the SKE 2.0 programme, the women’s movement can be showcased and will not be sidelined,” she said.

Also present were the PBB Demak Laut Branch Head and Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, and PBB Supreme Council assistant secretary-general and Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.
