KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, who is currently overseas, will return to Sarawak once he has fully recovered, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Updating Abdul Taib’s health status, he told reporters that a statement has already been issued through Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.

“The explanation is this: Abdul Taib is on leave and he fell ill abroad. Right now, he has recovered and is still resting.

“We use the final report from the hospital. That’s it and he’ll be back,” he said after officiating at the state-level National Month and Flying of Jalur Gemilang event at the Sarawak police contingent headquarters (IPK) today.

Last night (Aug 2), a black and white graphics with the name of the Head of State, went viral on social media platforms and WhatsApp.

The graphics, displaying the Astro Awani logo and portraying negatively about the Head of State, has been ascertained as fake.

Astro Awani has since issued a statement denying their involvement in the spread of the graphics and apologised to the family of Abdul Taib on the unfortunate incident.
