MIRI: Taman Awam Miri is now a ‘safe park’,  thanks to the Miri City Council (MCC) for installing 26 units of CCTV (closed-circuit television) and five units of SOS (code of distress signal calling for help) poles.

The completion and the commissioning of the safe park features is the council’s latest effort to provide security and safety features for the community.

Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang appealed to the public to take ownership of public properties which include the latest installations at the park.

” Mirians should safeguard public properties and become the eyes and ears of the local authorities.

“They are encouraged to report to MCC if there is any attempt of vandalism to public properties,” he said when officiating at the launch of the refurbished Taman Awam Miri here, today.

Yii pressed one of the newly installed SOS panic buttons to signify the completion and installation of safety features at the park .

The security and safety features are widely distributed around the public park for maximum coverage, encompassing parking space, playground, BBQ pit, children’s playground and food court.

The park comes complete with digital technology features after installation of similar devices at the Miri Bulatan Park and Miri City Fan.

The safe park project is one of the 10 initiatives of MCC under the Miri Smart City-Proof of Concept (MSC-POC) programme.

Officially launched by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg on April 12, 2021, MSC-POC seeks to improve the security and safety of local authorities’ services and facilities.
