KUCHING: A task force will be formed by the end of this month to address problems with housing development projects that are unfinished or abandoned.

Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Michael Tiang said that around five per cent of housing development projects in Sarawak are affected by such issues. These problems include delays in project completion, late property transfers, and various difficulties faced by homebuyers.

Therefore, he said a task force will be established to handle these problems. This initiative was mentioned during the last State Assembly Legislative (DUN) Session by the minister, Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Tiang added that the task force will comprise representatives from multiple government agencies, not just the ministry.

Speaking at the SHEDA Property Expo at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today (July 14), Tiang said that the current situation is detrimental to Sarawak’s reputation and has a negative impact on the housing and property industry, despite the state’s flourishing economy.

Tiang expressed his intention to convene a meeting of the State Housing Committee soon, during which the task force will be formed with the right individuals who can assist in finding solutions for these housing problems.
