MERADONG: A 17-year-old boy is feared drowned while bathing with his friends in a river yesterday (June 29).

A spokesman from the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre said a distress call was received at 3.45pm pertaining to the incident and Bintangor firemen were despatched to the scene.

“Earlier that day, while bathing in the river with three of his friends, the victim was reported to have jumped into the river from the Sungai Bakong Bridge, Jalan KJD and later swept away by the strong current.

“The victim’s friends noticed that he was drowning and attempted to rescue him, but to no avail. They immediately alerted his father and Bomba for assistance.

As at 5pm yesterday (June 29), the victim is yet to be found.
