SIBU: Youth in Sibu Jaya here are known to be talented in arts and crafts.

The three schools located in this vibrant township have consistently produced winning teams in dance, music and sports, apart from academic subjects.

The latest display of creative talent from these youngsters is in the form of upturned paint buckets and bamboo sticks.

Known as the ‘Jaya Beat Drummers’, a group of ten students aged between 15 and 18 years, recently put up a show at a community gathering hosted by master developer Amcorp SibuJaya (formerly known as Distrepark Sdn Bhd).

Trained by former Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) SibuJaya student, Eva Natasha, the drummers have been practising for about a month and a half, prior to their debut, and they did not fail to impress the guests who were at the community gathering.

Eva said Amcorp SibuJaya was very responsive to the youth’s request for a place to practise and also the supply of empty paint buckets and bamboo drum sticks.

“We saw some people playing various pails and buckets on YouTube and we decided to come up with a group of our own, just for fun. With the support of Amcorp SibuJaya, everything became much easier,” she said.

Her other reason for doing this was to keep her younger sister, Mag Dalena, occupied in fun and meaningful activities during the long year-end school holidays.

“My sister, like the rest of us in the family, is musically inclined. I told her to get her friends together and we can do something fun and unique,” Eva said.

Sibu Rural District Council zone councillor for SibuJaya Kong Yii Tee, who was present at the event was deeply impressed by the talented students.
