Ten arrested for drug abuse in Bintulu

BINTULU: Ten men were arrested by police for involving in drug abuse activities at Pasar Lama during Ops Bersepadu on August 31.

The police arrested three foreign men aged between 25 to 31 who were involved with distribution of drugs.

Bintulu OCPD Supt Batholomew Umpit in a statement yesterday said that the suspects have been investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.

“We found that they have 16 transparent packets and 141 straw tubes containing crystals suspected to be methamphetamine weighing 113.97grams.

“Meanwhile, seven local men were also detained during the operation and found to be positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

“The seven suspects were investigated under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952,” he said.

In addition, two out of the seven suspects have outstanding records under Section 15(1) and Section 12(2) of the same Act.

Batholomew said from preliminary investigation, it is believed that the drugs were used for distributions around the city area as well as estates and plantations for the consumption of around 300 addicts.

He also advised the public to relay any information regarding criminal and drug activities in Bintulu to the police.
