KUCHING: Ronnie Teo was re-elected as the president of the Kuching Division Journalist Association (KDJA) at its annual general meeting (AGM) held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) yesterday (April 14).

Teo, who is the Business Editor for the Borneo Post, will continue to lead the committee for the 2023–2025 term.

Other committee members have won uncontested, including Zulazhar Sheblee from The Star as the vice president, Firdaus Arasy Idris from RTM as the secretary, and Nur Ashikin Louis from Dayak Daily as the deputy secretary.

Kelly Chong from See Hua Daily will continue to serve as the treasurer, assisted by Zaphne Phillip from Bernama as the deputy treasurer.

The six top posts have been retained from the previous KDJA committee for the 2021–2023 term.

On another note, some new executive committee members (exco) consist of Johnlister Chan from Sin Chew Daily, Farah Diyana Samsuddin and Jeeridyne Chan from TVS, Nancy Nais from Dayak Daily, and Angeline Lim from the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS).

Jacqueline Nur Atiqah from the Borneo Post will continue to serve as the committee’s advisor, while Edmund Chang from See Hua Daily will continue his position as the committee’s auditor.

During the AGM, Teo looked forward to serving the media community to the very best of his capacity on his new term.

“We hope the community will continue to support the media in its efforts to deliver accurate and timely news to the public,” he said.

Since its establishment in 1972, KDJA has a strong membership of 380 members, and KDJA’s purpose is to look after media practitioners’ welfare while also improving media professionalism in Kuching.

Previous term activities consist of the continuation of engaging with both the government and private sectors for future programmes after the movement control order (MCO) was lifted in early 2022.

Some of the programmes that will be held by KDJA this year will be the annual Kota Kinabalu hiking trip in conjunction with Sarawak Day and a courtesy visit to Indonesia to build relations with the media, government, agencies, embassies, and industries there.
