KUCHING: As Christmas day approaches, members of the public have already returned to their respective hometowns to celebrate the festive season.
The busy crowd could be seen at Kuching Sentral Bus Terminal here as those from Sri Aman, Sibu, Miri and Kalimantan, who are working and studying in Kuching, were waiting for their bus ride as early as 7.30am yesterday.
According to Bus Asia Biaramas ticket agent David Talajan, the bus terminal had been packed with people since morning.
“Our buses are fully booked as most people are returning home for Christmas. Tickets were bought as early as a month ago either through online booking or at the counter,” he said.
David, who has been working for nine years, said the crowd was the same each year, but not as much compared to during Gawai.
“For Bus Asia, there are 14 trips in a day to bring passengers to their destinations.”
He added that there was an additional bus for those who chose to travel at the very last minute.
“We are also expecting more tomorrow (Dec 23) until Monday (Dec 24). Our buses will still transport passengers on Christmas Day until 10.30pm.”
He also said there were a total of 29 bus companies and most were nearly fully booked.
“Most of the bus trips start at 7.30am and the last trip at 10.30pm.”
Kuching Sentral is East Malaysia’s first air-conditioned and fully integrated three-storey regional bus terminal. It has been servicing passengers in Sarawak and West Kalimantan since early 2012.
