MIRI: A thanksgiving ceremony in conjunction with the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud’s 85th birthday celebration was held at Masjid Darul Istiqamah, Kampung Luak here last night (Oct 8).

Organised by the Miri Division Islamic Religious Office, it was attended by 100 people and in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).

The ceremony began with Magrib prayers followed by the recitation of the Surah Yassin which was led by Miri Division Imam Ustaz Syarafuddin Suaut.

It then continued with a special talk entitled ‘TYT Payung Perpaduan (TYT the Umbrella of Unity)’ delivered by Ustaz Roshaidin Othman.

In his talk, he described Taib as an umbrella of unity of the people in Sarawak.

“The people must be grateful for the blessings of the peace in our multi-racial, multi-religious, and multi-ethnic society in the state,” he said.

He urged the people not to be easily influenced by the negative elements from outside.
