Beauty retailer Sephora teamed up with the world’s most famous doll back in March to launch “Sephora Collection x Barbie,” a limited edition makeup kit set that took the form of a throwback, Eighties-style boombox. The cute kit covered mascara, liner, three different eyeshadow palettes and an exclusive Barbie cap.

There was something nostalgic about the way that beauty brands looked to classic toys and animated characters for their cosmetics collaborations this year. Here are five of the biggest.

LA-based label Colourpop Cosmetics got the Disney treatment this fall, dreaming up a 19-piece ‘Disney Designer Collection’ that encompassed lip colours, eyeshadows and highlighters. Each product is named after a famous Disney character or song title from classic movies such as “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Little Mermaid” and “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.” Photo:Relaxnews
This month saw Hot Topic unveil a retro-themed beauty collaboration in the form of a notebook-shaped eyeshadow palette inspired by everybody’s favourite 1990s chick flick, “Clueless.” The “Totally Buggin’” palette features 12 different shades inspired by the movie, in matte and shimmery finishes — and it even comes with a makeup brush that riffs on Cher’s signature fluffy pen.

Korean beauty brand Innisfree kicked off the year by hooking up with Snoopy, the comic strip icon and star of “The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show.” The animated pooch was given his own makeup collection in the form of ‘Innisfree X Snoopy,’ a limited-edition series that spanned palette cases, compact cases, tinted lip creams and a nail polish.
