Third suspect in false claims case remanded

MIRI: A Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) personnel based in Sepanggar, Sabah was detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Miri branch, on Thursday night  to assist in their probe over false claims case.

The 33-year-old man was brought to Miri Magistrate’s Court yesterday morning and was remanded for five days until Jan 30 to assist MACC in its probe.

The suspect arrived at the Miri Court complex at 9.35am escorted by Miri MACC officers.

He was alleged to be involved in the false claims over an amount totalling RM16,000.

The remand order was meted out by Magistrate Kasyfurrahman Abang Ahmad after receiving the remand application from MACC prosecuting officer, Jamal Ayub.

According to sources, the suspect was detained by the MACC officers after he gave his statement at MACC Miri office at 8.45pm Thursday on the case.

Sources added, the suspect was believed to be an accomplice to another two suspects who were detained in Kuching for producing false claims pertaining to rentals of three buses during training sessions sometime in October, 2017.

The case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
