Thousands joining in the Kuching Zumba Fiesta 2023.

KUCHING: Colourful lights and loud music are all you need at the 6th edition of Kuching Zumba Fiesta 2023 as over 4,000 participants shake and dance at the Stadium Hoki here yesterday (Aug 19).

The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said everyone knows Kuching Zumba Fiesta is a very famous event during the Kuching Festival.

Wee has a ‘wee bit’ of fun as he joins in the Zumba dance.

“We have been planning to make a comeback this year. I believe that we need to start organising more physical activity after the pandemic.

“The council decided to postpone the Kuching Zumba Fiesta starting in 2020, and this year, we are bringing back this exciting event, and I believe that this has been one of the events that has been awaited by all the Kuching residents,” he said when officiating at the event.

He added that the Zumba activity is one of the events under the Kuching Festival held by the council to promote a better and healthier lifestyle in the community.

“This is in line with the Healthy City programme advocated by MBKS all these years.

“The community, regardless of age, gender, or race, is welcomed to join in the electrifying and fun-filled night where the high-spirited instructors, accompanied by the immense music burst, will guide you to dance through the night and make it an unforgettable experience you will ever have,” he said.

Wee, who was in high spirits throughout the night, said zumba isn’t even a workout; it’s a fun dance party for all of the participants, with exercise being one of the biggest perks.

“The music is fast, upbeat, and contagious, so you can’t help but keep moving, and zumba is by far one of the best ways to get your friends in on your exercise routine, and at the same time, you can stay connected with your friends and family,” he said.

Also present were Kuching Zumba Fiesta 2023 organising committee chairperson Cr Datuk Azizi Morni and Kuching Festival chairman Cr Mok Chang Phing.
