Three detained for mischief

MIRI: Police detained three local men for allegedly hurling firecrackers into a workers’ quarters in Riam early Wednesday morning.

According to Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah, the trio, aged 29, 33 and 37 years were detained during an operation dubbed ‘Ops Laras’ conducted by a team from Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) led by ASP Unang Giang.

“They were arrested inside a house in Permyjaya,” he said.

The arrest was made following on a police report lodged by the workers’ employer after she was told by one of her employees of the incident via a Wechat application.

During the arrest, police also seized a home-made shotgun (Bakakuk), three machetes, a 41cm-long sickle and a ‘live’ bullet.

All suspects are currently being detained at Miri Central Police Station (CPS) for questioning.

The case is being investigated under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive, Explosive and Dangerous Weapons Act 1953 and Section 8 (a) of the Firearms Act 1960.
