Three made homeless in Marudi blaze

MIRI: A wooden house in Jalan Poyut Lubuk Nibong Kampung Sengkabang in Marudi was destroyed in a fire on Saturday, leaving two elderly aged 70 and a 19 year-old lad homeless.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre (Bomba) said they received a distressed call around 3.48 pm from villagers that the house was on fire.

One fire engine carrying six firemen from Marudi Fire station was rushed to the scene.

Also present was Marudi Fire and Rescue station officer in-charge Maureen Sim.

Firemen use a nearby pond as the water source to put out the fire.

The scene is located 22 km away from the (Marudi) station.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.

By using two water nozzles with water pumped from a nearby pond, Bomba managed to put the fire under control at 5 pm.

After ensuring the fire was fully extinguished, Bomba wrapped up their operations at 6.30 pm.

A total of 11 gongs of various sizes were salvaged during the incident.
