Three snatch thefts reported in one day

KUCHING: A local woman lost several thousands of ringgit after losing her handbag to two snatch thieves at a commercial centre at Jalan Tun Jugah on Wednesday night.

According to the victim, the incident occurred at around 9.30pm at a public car park while she was walking towards her car when two men on a motorcycle grabbed her handbag as they rode past her from behind.

She said among the items that were kept in the handbag were a tablet, a note book and a mobile phone.

Meanwhile, a saleswoman suffered light injuries after falling victim to two snatch thieves while walking back to her house on Wednesday afternoon.

The 44-year-old woman from Jalan Tabuan was walking alone along the road towards her house when the incident occurred at around 2.30pm.

Two men on a motorcycle were said to have snatched her handbag as they rode past her, causing her to fall to the ground.

She sustained scrapes and bruises on her arms and knees as a result of the fall and lost about RM350 in cash as well as her personal documents, tablet and mobile phone in the incident.

In another case, a 77-year-old woman sustained head and bodily injuries after falling victim to a snatch thief at Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho on Wednesday morning.

The incident took place at around 10.15am in front of a local bank when a man on a motorcycle pulled up from behind and snatched her handbag, causing her to fall and hit her head on the road.

Members of the public who heard the commotion came to the victim’s aid and later contacted her relative to fetch her.

Police were investigating all three cases.
