Ties between Sarawak and China to be enhanced: Abang Jo

KUCHING: Bilateral ties between Sarawak and China will be enhanced and strengthened.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said ties between Malaysia and China had always been excellent and must be maintained.

“We have to continue to enhance this relationship in all fields,” he said a Chinese Lunar New Year dinner reception, here last night.

He said that among the areas China, Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole could continue to work were in areas of tourism, culture, economy and education.

“With China’s open door policy, this will continue to enhance the relationship between the two countries.

“For the past few years, I have visited Yunnan. A lot of development and transformation and has been carried out by Chinese President Xi Jinping. And my visits to Kunming and Fuzhou had given me a huge insight into their country,” he said.

Johari hoped the bilateral relationship between China and Sarawak would be enhanced not only through official visits but also people to people visits.

“I believe this relationship will be bring more prosperity for both China and Sarawak.” 

Meanwhile, Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said that the diplomatic ties between China and Malaysia, particularly Sarawak, would be strengthened.

The dinner reception was organised by the Chinese Consulate in Kuching.

Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Assistant Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan and chairman of the Board of Management of Kuching Chung Hua Middle Schools No. 1, 3 and 4 Datuk Richard Wee were among those present.
