SEMATAN: Tourism products and activities in Lundu and Sematan is most likely to benefit the locals in terms of livelihood and productivity.

Tanjung Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan said that this is his goal as an elected representative.

Elaborating further, he said tourism products and activities have multiplying effects, particularly in economic development.

“Tourism is an important economic sector which is highlighted in Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

“For instance, if a hotel is built in Lundu or Sematan, it would create various opportunities for the locals like employment.

“Moreover, visitors coming in would surely purchase products made by the locals thus generating income,” he said in his speech during a function to launch the pontoon at Sematan Waterfront today.

On the Tok Nan Open Sea Fishing Competition 2022, Azizul said it was part of the programmes held in conjunction with the launching of the pontoon.

He also said fishing was his late father Pehin Sri Adenan Satem’s favourite pastime and it can be one of the tourism activities to attract visitors to his constituency.
