KUCHING: Anticipation is high for the upcoming State Budget 2024, aimed at strengthening community development amidst the Sarawak’s rapid growth phase.

According to Dr. Alia Abdul Latif, lecturer from the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), the budget should emphasise community engagement and broader societal participation in unveiling new economic sectors.

“This includes participating in activities related to renewable energy production,” she told New Sarawak Tribune when asked about the State Budget 2024’s focus and expectations.

She elaborated on the potential for diverse economic activities, such as household production of wooden pallets in mainland areas and algae cultivation by coastal communities, to reinforce the green economy.

Further discussing the potential impact of the budget, Dr. Alia pointed out the importance of the evolving transportation network.

“By leveraging the highway network and transportation that will connect all parts of Borneo in the future, every household should try to identify and utilise any abilities, advantages, time resources, and energy that can generate continuous income at the individual level, leading to a collectively more sustainable impact,” she said.
