SIBU: The hurling of a Molotov cocktail at a KK Mart branch in Kuching last Sunday is very ‘un-Sarawakian’ and unacceptable toxic behaviour.

In stating this Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth chief Datuk Michael Tiang it is tantamount to challenging the core values, culture, and harmony of Sarawak.

Condemning the act, he stressed that no one should take matters into their own hands at the expense of racial harmony and unity in the state.

“It has never happened before, and it should not happen at all in Sarawak. This is so ‘un-Sarawakian’.

“Sarawak society is always considered as a prime model for racial unity and harmony. It came as a shock that this should happen in Sarawak,” he said in a statement on Monday (April2).

Tiang, who is Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government said given the gravity of the crime those behind it must be prosecuted regardless of the grounds and reasons they may give.

He also said that everyone should come together to say ‘no’ to such behaviour and defend the Sarawak spirit’s core values, culture and harmony.

“Every Sarawakian has a role to play; be it religious group, education, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), they should come together to stop this act from invading Sarawak because defending Sarawak’s core values, culture and harmony is a shared responsibility,” he pointed out.

Tiang also urged party members to remain calm and hoped this is just an isolated incident.

On Sunday, police received a report of someone hurling a Molotov cocktail at the KK Mart outlet at Jalan Satok.

The act caused boxes containing beverages placed on the five-foot way in front of the store to catch fire.

The incident in Kuching was the third after a similar incident at the KK Mart outlet in Kuantan and another outlet in Bidor, Perak.
