KABONG: Persatuan Wanita Bestari in collaboration with D’Akasya Group recently organised a Traditional Dance Basics Workshop for Zapin Sarawak and Ngajat Iban.

Persatuan Wanita Bestari chairperson Councillor Dayang Rosnah Abang Drashid said the two-day workshop involved a total of 75 participants from Sarikei, Betong, Saratok, Roban and also Kabong.

“The objective of the workshop is to preserve, conserve and maintain the performing arts in Sarawak.

“It also provides formal exposure and education to the community in the field of dance arts. My hope is to create a spirit of love for the country’s arts culture among the participants,” she said.

She said this when officiating at the closing ceremony of the Traditional Dance Basics Workshop for Zapin Sarawak and Ngajat Iban in D’Akasya Homestay at Pantai Tanjung Kembang Kabong here on Oct 18.

Through this workshop, the participants can also learn the basic techniques in dance, and then can be translated either in the performance of ceremonies or competitions, Dayang Rosnah pointed out.

“It is hoped that the participants in this workshop will be able to foster and increase understanding and unity among the participants who come from various races in the state.

“These people can later be used as change agents who can foster unity among the community in Sarawak,” said Dayang Rosnah, who is also the general manager of D’Akasya Group.

Apart from that, the Saratok district council councillor said the courses and workshops provided the participants with their talents that could be highlighted not only at the school, but at the district level and then at the divisional and state levels.
