KUCHING:  Community leaders and organisations at grassroots level in Satok should help uplift the lot of the residents living in the constituency.

Datuk Ibrahim said it is the duty of every community leader, village chief and organisation in the respective neighbourhood to help the residents.

He said if the community leaders and organisations play their role, it would be easier for him, as the assemblyman, to resolve problems faced by the people.

Datuk Ibrahim Baki, who is Satok assemblyman, urged the community leaders and village chiefs around Kampung Segedup to work together for the benefit of the people.

“The teamwork that is present within the community is strong because of the existence of village security and development committees (JKKK) and mosque management committees,” he said.

He was speaking at a ‘Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitiri’ at Haji Kamaruddin Hall in Kampung Segedup yesterday (May 21).

Meanwhile, Ibrahim Baki highlighted the importance of being united and preserving harmony in a multi-racial community.

He said despite Sarawak’s multiracial composition, unity starts from the grassroots level.

“Gawai is approaching soon, and Sarawakians would be holding open houses, similar to Hari Raya and Chinese New Year. Among us, there are different races and we need to maintain a harmonious spirit.

“But it starts with us here, from the grassroots level, especially in our neighbourhood,” he said.

Present at the event were a political secretary to the Premier, Abdul Samad Gani; deputy mayor of Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Hilmy Othman; private secretary to the Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, MorshidI Said; and community leader Sulaiman Awie.
