SIBU: Fifty-six students from 14 Chinese Independent Secondary Schools will be participating in the 9th Sarawak Chinese Independent Secondary Schools’ Trilingual Speech Competition on May 11.

The competition, hosted by the Sibu United Association of Private Chinese Secondary School (SUAPCSS), will be held at Wisma Hua Wen Du Zong here.

SUAPCSS chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King said to convey information more practically and expand interpersonal relationships, students must at least master three major languages in Malaysia — Malay, English and Chinese.

He pointed out that learning and mastering these three languages could open up a wider world for Chinese independent secondary school students.

“This is why we believe that the trilingual speech contest is worthy of attention, which is a regular competition held as scheduled every year,” he said.

“We believe the trilingual speech contest will be the best way to showcase the students’ talents and knowledge,” he added.
