Trio held for drug-related offences

MIRI: Three individuals were arrested for drug-related offences during an operation dubbed “Ops Bersepadu” or “Ops Krismas” along the Miri Bypass   on Dec 27.

Miri Road Transport Department (RTD) chief Misnan Tamimi said the operation, which involved three government enforcement agencies namely, Miri Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department from the Miri police headquarters, the National Anti-Drugs Agency from Miri) and RTD, was conducted between 10am and midnight.

A total of 20 enforcement officers from the  three agencies were involved in the operation.

“The three  suspects tested positive for methamphetamine (Syabu),” said Misnan.

They were arrested under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for taking drugs.

A total of 20 summonses were issued  by RTD and the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department to errant motorists during the two-hour operation.

“During the operation, we inspected a total of 165 vehicles,” added Misnan.

The summonses issued were for expired road taxes, irregular plate numbers and for not wearing seat belts.
