The victims are not able to leave the scene with their motorcycles as the rising water has reached their location as at 4.50pm.

KUCHING: Three fishing enthusiasts are now trapped by rising tide at Kampung Trombol Beach, Telaga Air, near here today (Feb 12).

The victims had gone to the beach on their motorcycles to fish. While they were engrossed in their activity, they failed to realise the rising tide was cutting them off from the road.

A State Fire and Rescue (Bomba) operations centre spokesman said a team of firefighters from Petra Jaya was despatched to the beach after they received a distress call from the victims at 2.56 pm.

The rescuers have reached the location but are unable to reach the spot where the victims are trapped because of the high tide. They estimate the distance to the spot of the trapped victims from the nearest chalet in Kampung Trombol at 2.96km.

At 4.50pm, the victims called the Bomba operations centre to update them about their situation.

The victims had to climb a tree to escape the tide.

A check with the operations centre revealed that a boat with a team of firefighters from Tabuan Jaya was moving directly to the Ramungan ferry point to rescue the trapped victims.

The centre also contacted the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Sarawak Region for assistance as the location is now experiencing heavy rain and rough tides.
