KUALA NERUS: Terengganu FC (TFC) will reduce the intake of import players next season as part of the club’s austerity measures.

Terengganu Football Association (PBSNT) president Hishamuddin Abdul Karim said they plan to reduce the number of imports from nine to five due to the financial constraints faced by the state government.

However, Hishamuddin, who is also the state Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisation Development Committee chairman, said the matter would be further discussed with the coaches to ensure it won’t affect the team’s performance.

“We expect to use just five (imports)… depending on the view of the coaches and our budget,” he said when met during the Exclusive Meet and Greet With World Championship FIM Mini GP 2023 Programme at the Gong Badak Circuit here.

He said that apart from that, they will not make any major changes or reshuffles to the team for next season.

He said this was because the Turtles already have a strong foundation and are on the right track to continue to excel next season.

“Unlike other teams, we are not overdoing our preparation (for next season) as we already have a solid foundation and part of it has already been carried out.

“Just need to add some import players… even that is being carried out. We will announce if we get or release any players,” he said.

TFC had previously announced that they would retain head coach Tomislav Steinbruckner next season after he took the Turtles to the final of the Malaysia Cup. – BERNAMA
