Two deaths up toll to 239

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded two new deaths involving Covid-19 infection today, bringing the state’s Covid-19 death toll to 239.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the 238th death was Case 39,481, a local woman aged 84 years from Miri district.

It said the case was referred to Miri Hospital for emergency treatment as she was experiencing symptoms of fever, cough, difficulty in breathing, and body fatigue.

“A reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rT-PCR) test was done on May 18 and this was found positive for Covid-19.

“The case’s health condition deteriorated and she passed away on the same day. The case had the comorbidity of high blood pressure,” it said in a statement today.

As for the 239th death, the committee said this was Case 34,810, a 90-year-old local man from Bau district who was admitted into Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

“The case had the symptom of cough before that. An rT-PCR test was conducted and returned positive for Covid-19 on May 8,” said the statement.

SDMC said the case’s health condition declined further and he passed away on Wednesday.

“The case had comorbidities of high blood pressure and dyslipidemia,” it added.
