Two events to highlight birthday celebration

MIRI: Two main events will highlight the state level Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s birthday celebration here on June 4 and 5. State Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin who is in charge of the celebration said it will commence with a thanksgiving ceremony at Masjid At-Taqwa at 6pm on June 4 at which 1,200 people are expected to attend. At 10am the next day, a tea ceremony will be held at Pullman Hotel here where 550 guests are expected to be in attendance. During the tea ceremony, the Sarawak Arts Council (MSS) will highlight three segments, the first being entertainment from three local artistes namely Ricky Anderson, Dayana Shini and Fredo Lam Julez. “Next, there will be a special performance entitled 'Budaya Identiti Kita' which will highlight the different dances and rhythms of the various races in Sarawak,” Lee said. The closing performance will be the ‘Dirgahayu Tuanku' symbolising the presence of Malaysia under His Majesty’s rule. Lee disclosed this after chairing a meeting with various government agencies here on the preparations for the event on Monday. Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib are among the dignitaries expected to attend the celebration. Also in attendance will be Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma'ani Tun Tuanku Bujang. The celebration will be broadcast live on the Facebook page of the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) and its YouTube UKAS channel. Also present at the press conference were Deputy Minister for Public Health ,Housing and Local Government I (Public Health and Housing )Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, Deputy Ministet in the Premier’s Department (Labour,Immigration and Project Monitoring ) Datuk Gerawat Gala, Director of Sarawak Protocol, Ceremonies and Event Management Unit (UPPANS), Datu Mohamad Junaidi Mohidin and heads of departments.
