Two fined for stealing iron from construction site

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here fined two men RM1,400 each in default of five months’ jail for stealing 25 two-foot-long iron rods and four iron plates belonging to a construction company.

Fredy, 37, and Christy, 22, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan to a charge under Section 379 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code.

The two were jointly charged with stealing the iron from a construction site near the Kampung Tanjung Bako bridge around 12.18pm on Feb 17.

Based on the facts of the case, the complainant, a security guard, received information from an Indonesian worker about the theft at the construction site where they were employed.

The complainant rushed to the scene and stopped the vehicle used by Fredy and Christy.

Both of them got out of the car and attempted to flee, but they were apprehended with the help of the complainant’s colleague.

A police patrol team re-arrested the men and confiscated the Proton Saga car, 25 two-feet-long iron rods, and four iron plates.

Insp Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case, while the two men were unrepresented by counsel.
