SIBU: A retiree and a food stall operator were slapped with fines totalling RM3,500 for not wearing face masks on Friday.

An integrated standard operating procedure (SOP) monitoring team caught the individuals committing the offence at separate locations.

District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit stated that the retiree, 68, was caught inside An-Nur Mosque, Jalan Awang Ramli Amit without wearing a face mask.

“The man was issued a RM2,000 compound at 1.30pm for violating the movement control order (MCO) by not wearing a face mask while in public.

“The compound was issued under Regulation 11 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases 1988,” he said.

Meanwhile, the food stall operator was caught by the SOP monitoring team in the morning for the same offence at Taman Indah, Jalan Teku.

Stanley pointed out that the 55-year-old woman was issued a RM1,500 compound for the offence while preparing food.
