Uncustomed fags worth RM2.6m seized

KUCHING: The General Operations Force (GOF) seized various uncustomed cigarettes and a lorry estimated to be worth more than RM2.6 million in Siburan on Monday (Jan 11).

GOF Sarawak Brigade commander SAC Mancha Ata said the raid dubbed Ops Libas was carried out by a GOF Intelligence unit at 12.05am.

Acting on information received, the team carried out inspections on a residential premises in Taman Shun Lee that was believed to be used as a store to keep uncustomed cigarettes.

“Inspections led to the discovery of 17,100 cartons of cigarettes in the premises.

“The raid team also arrested a local man and seized the cigarettes and a lorry,” he said.

Mancha added that the seizures are estimated to be worth RM2,645,000 and were handed over to the police for further action under Section 135 (1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.

To date, the brigade have recorded a total seizure worth RM6,251,204.64 involving four cases and eight arrests.
