KUCHING: Coaches who underperformed at the recent Malaysian Games (SUKMA) are in jeopardy of being dismissed and replaced.

Deputy Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu said such an approach is in his thoughts at the moment in view of Sarawak’s underwhelming finish at the recent SUKMA Games.

“However, we will only take the action after analysing the reports and the results of all the teams involved in the prestigious Games.

“We will go through the post-mortem report of each team involved on October 24, and if it is indeed necessary to replace the coach due to their poor performance, then it has to be done,” he told reporters at a press conference held at the Pandelela Aquatic Centre here today (Oct 12).

Rentap, who is also the state’s Chef De Mission in the last SUKMA Games, said such drastic action must be taken to restore the state’s expected great performance in each and every sport it is taking part in.

“We will take a look again at the training procedures done for each sport and if the training techniques and methods being used are no longer suitable in this modern era, we will have to change and adapt with the time.

“As you can see right now, the usage of sports science is really important and it has shown that it helps,” he explained.
