KUCHING: Serba Dinamik Group Bhd (SDGB) aims to provide internet connectivity to the unserved and underserved communities through its venture into space technology.

SDGB group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Dr Mohd Abdul Karim Abdullah said this initiative was in line with the government’s decision to bring internet to all Malaysians.

“The space technology that we are focusing on at the moment is related to communications.

“We will deploy low-orbit satellites that can produce the broadband signal required for internet connectivity,” he said.

“We are determined to make this happen at an affordable price for the people,” he said in an interview with Bernama on Serba Dinamik: Terus Berkembang Dalam Suasana Ekonomi Dilanda Pandemik Global broadcast live on Bernama TV on Tuesday.

Abdul Karim explained that unserved meant any home or business that has a broadband speed of fewer than 10/1 Mbps. Underserved was defined as homes having speeds above 10/1 Mbps but slower than 25/3 Mbps.

He said the space industry was also known for utilising various types of technology that could create a supply chain of business economy, which he deemed as “very attractive” to the group.

“We see that space technology is a niche market with not that many players at the moment and it will help to position Serba Dinamik in an advantageous position in that industry.”

He added that Serba Dinamik was also conducting studies to identify its future ventures into other industries to be a step ahead of other global players.

“Everyone is created equally. It is just whether we want to push ourselves to the limit so that we can achieve what others are not achieving.

“So it goes along that direction and I believe that Malaysians can do it,” said Abdul Karim.
