KUCHING: Recipients of grants from the Unit For Other Religions (Unifor) have been reminded to get going with their respective projects after receiving the funding.

In stating this, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the unit’s policy is that it will not entertain further requests for funds if recipients failed to utilise the first allocation given, even if they still need funding.

“Other than that, we also want all recipients to bank in their cheques to avoid them becoming null and void upon their expiry dates,” he said during the Unifor grant presentation ceremony at his office on Tuesday.

He stressed that it was the intention of the government to see all given funds are duly used.

“It will defeat our purpose if the funds are not used appropriately or immediately. Therefore, it is mandatory for houses of worship to submit regular progress reports to update Unifor on their construction or upgrading status and spending,” he said.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has allocated RM110 million for Unifor.

According to Uggah, this is inclusive of the RM20 million to assist mission schools.
