BERLIN: The trade union Verdi announced a 27-hour strike of Lufthansa ground staff at major German airports starting on Tuesday morning, reported German news agency (dpa).

The strike will hit Lufthansa in Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, Dusseldorf, Cologne-Bonn and Stuttgart beginning at 4 am (0300 GMT) on Tuesday and ending at 7.10 am on Wednesday, the union said.

All ground staff – from aircraft maintenance to passenger assistance – have been called to strike, Verdi said on Sunday, likely resulting in widespread flight cancellations and delays.

The 25,000 ground employees are locked in a pay dispute with the Lufthansa Group.

No agreement was reached in the third round of negotiations on Feb 12. The employers’ offer from the previous round was rejected by the vast majority of employees. – BERNAMA-dpa
