KUCHING: Sarawak is a premier investment destination in Southeast Asia and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg pointed out that Sarawak’s strategic location, coupled with an abundance of natural resources and its steadfast commitment to sustainable development has made it a beacon of opportunity.

“We have immense untapped potential and boundless opportunities in Sarawak, waiting to be explored and harnessed.

“Moreover, under our Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, we have outlined a clear plan and initiatives to accelerate economic growth and development,” he said.

He said this when officiating at the International Business Review Borneo Awards 2023 here on Friday (Nov 3).

Stating that the private sector is the main engine of growth under PCDS 2030, he said Sarawak is developing a conducive business ecosystem for the private sector to attract both domestic direct investments (DDI) and foreign direct investments (FDI).

“We are investing heavily on infrastructure, utilities and telecommunications. We are also improving our transport and logistics sector, such as land transport, airport and seaport services to accommodate the growing demand of industries.

“We are also improving ease of doing business through a digital transformation of our government services, reviewing our policies, regulations and incentives.”

Abang Johari noted that Sarawak has established InvestSarawak to be a one stop centre for investment in Sarawak as well as the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office in Singapore.

He added that soon, the state will open two new trade and tourism offices in Brunei and Kalimantan to promote Sarawak’s tourism, local products and services and more importantly attract investments into Sarawak.

“Aside from that, huge investment has been committed to human capital development in the areas of education, especially Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to nurture talents to ensure our workforce is agile and ready to tackle the challenges of the future.

“We acknowledge that certain industries demand specific talents and skill sets. As such, we are facilitating the requirement for them to bring experts from abroad, especially our young and talented Sarawakians.
