MIRI: It’s the kind of situation that most women would not want to be in — to come face to face with a snake when you least expect it.

And that was exactly the situation a woman here found herself in this morning.

Call it luck – it has to be her luck – because if she had not spotted it, her experience might not end as it was.

Gotcha!

But because she saw the snake as she approached her car, she was able to gather herself together and made that call to the local fire station for help.

The firemen responded immediately, rushed to the complainant’s home at Jalan Akasia 3 here.

As soon as they reached there, the firemen got down to business — literally.

They crawled to get underneath the car where the reptile was curled up and some 15 minutes later a five-foot python was pulled out from there.

According to Miri Fire and Rescue department chief Supt Law Poh Kiong, eight firemen were mobilised to the scene.

“We cannot take chances in incidents such as this because we may be dealing with poisonous snakes.

“In this case, it was a python, not quite poisonous but they are known to be big eaters, so any python is dangerous,” Law said, adding residents should not hesitate to call the department if they face similar situations.

“I cannot imagine if I had not seen it. It was a very scary experience,” said the complainant, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
