UTS to host Asean quantity surveyors congress

SIBU: University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) will host the Asean Quantity Surveyors Association (AQSA) International Congress 2023 here on May 16-17.

According to UTS Vice Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid, the congress is jointly organised with AQSA and is the first to be held physically.

“The theme of the congress is ‘Envisioning Sustainability and Digitalisation in the Asean Construction Industry’ and will feature mega construction projects in Asean countries, including the new capital city of Indonesia,” he said during a press conference here Monday (May 8).

Khairuddin said 20 industry leaders and experts from Asean countries will share and discuss issues and challenges related to the sustainability and digitalisation of Asean construction projects.

He mentioned that the event will be attended by approximately 700 delegates, including quantity surveyors, architects, engineers, project managers, contractors, academics, researchers, government officials, and undergraduate students.

“Approximately 340 students will be attending the first-day congress at Kingwood Hotel. A total of 42 of them will present their research projects in a poster presentation competition. On the second day, the students will participate in team-building events at the UTS campus,” he said.

The congress is expected to be officiated by Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, on May 16.
