BARIO: Quick action from the volunteer firefighters (PBS) in Kampung Pa Umor, Bario stopped a house fire from spreading further in the village on Thursday.

A statement revealed that at 9 pm, the Marudi Fire and Rescue Department was alerted about the incident. The report came from the village chief, who contacted them using the PBS Pa’ Umor and PBS Bario phone lines.

Both PBS teams from Pa’ Umor and Bario immediately assembled and travelled to the location with private vehicles which was about 9 kilometres away.

Upon arrival, a wooden house was already engulfed in flames. The firefighters acted swiftly, using the village’s water supply to put out the fire and protect nearby homes.

By 11.38 pm, the fire was completely put out, and thankfully, no one was hurt.

The department is still looking into what caused the fire.
