Warning of continuous heavy rain until Monday

MetMalaysia predicts continuous heavy rain in several areas in Sarawak from February 4 to 5.

BINTULU: Continuous heavy rain is expected to occur in several areas in Sarawak starting tomorrow (Feb 4) until Monday, according to a weather alert issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

Based on the warning issued on its website at 11.25 am on Saturday, MetMalaysia informed that continuous heavy rain at a cautionary level is forecasted to affect Sibu (Sibu and Selangau), Mukah (Daro, Matu, Dalat, and Mukah), and Bintulu from Sunday, February 4, until Monday, February 5.

Continuous heavy rain is also expected in parts of Miri and Limbang until this Sunday.

“A continuous rainfall warning (danger) is issued when there are indications of continuous heavy rain expected with rainfall exceeding 150 mm within a 24-hour period.

“A continuous rainfall warning (severe) is issued when there are indications of continuous heavy rain expected with rainfall exceeding 60 mm within a six-hour period,” it stated.

Meanwhile, a cautionary level continuous rain alert is issued when there are signs indicating that rain or thunderstorms are moderate and expected to last more than six hours in a particular area during that period.
