KUCHING: Residents of Taman Flora Indah flats in Jalan Arang here no longer have to endure water leakage problems as their old metal rain gutters have been replaced with new plastic gutters.

The gutter replacement project, done under the federal Housing and Local Government Ministry’s housing maintenance programme (PPP) was carried out on 18 flat blocks involving 576 units with a cost of about RM444,172.68.

The project commenced last month and was completed this month, earlier than the scheduled completion on Nov 30.

Sarawak Housing Development Corporation (HDC) was appointed as the implementing agency for the project.

Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman and Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang was present to witness the handing over of the completed project by HDC engineer Hassan Hazli Huspi to Taman Flora Indah Committee chairman Ong Liang Boo yesterday (Oct 18).

“Aside from replacing the gutters, HDC also installed fluorescent lighting on 144 staircase landings at a cost of RM100,000,” Lo said.

He also conveyed his appreciation to HDC for cleaning all the septic tanks located on all 18 flat blocks.

“I want to thank all involved, including the residents for their cooperation which has led to the smooth implementation of this project,” he said.
