DOHA: Japanese national football team player, Takumi Minamino said that his country’s victory over its Vietnamese counterpart gave his team a great morale boost to win the tournament, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.
The match took place at Al Thumama Stadium on Sunday, whereby Japan won Vietnam 4-2, part of the Group D matches of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023.
Minamino, the scorer of two of Japan’s four goals, expressed joy over his contributions, the team’s success, and meeting the expectations of Japanese fans.
Acknowledging technical challenges faced against Vietnam’s formidable performance, resulting in two goals scored against Japan, Minamino commended his teammates.
He emphasised that the team’s triumph holds greater importance for him than individual achievements such as securing the top scorer title or being recognised as the tournament’s best player. – BERNAMA-QNA
