KUCHING: Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said the federal government is being careless in doing away with the critical service allowance.

He said that such carelessness may jeopardise efforts to achieve a developed nation status.

“I am not too sure whether comprehensive studies were made before the federal government reached this decision,” he said to New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.

“The government must realise that remuneration, once given, can no longer be withdrawn ― or it will affect the morale and motivation of the workers,” Wan Junaidi said.

He emphasised that whether the government was able to look for the funds was not the question ― “It is the government’s responsibility.”

He said that if the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government could not manage the economy and develop the nation, the best option was to go back to the people for a new mandate.

“A professional and comprehensive study would be able to guide the government to make a rational and objective decision.

“The federal government seems to have been emotional, irrational and lacking wisdom in making a decision,” Wan Junaidi said.

“To achieve a developed nation status is not just about tall buildings and superb infrastructures, it involves all-round economic, political, social, cultural and physical development as a whole,” Wan Junaidi said.

He said it is impossible to achieve anything major with a ‘disgruntled’ civil service.
