MIRI: Miri City Council wants members of the public to report the presence of stray dogs in public areas in the city through the WhatsApp hotline 0198960370.

It said the hotline was part of the strategy to contain the rabies outbreak in the city with three teams on standby

to catch stray dogs, with the operation hours from 8 am to 10 pm daily.

“The operation to control the stray dog population in the city is ongoing and since July 2017 when rabies outbreak was declared in Kuching, MCC has intensified the operation with a total of 2,394 dogs caught from July 2017 until Dec 19, 2018,” it said in a statement, here, yesterday.

For dog owners, MCC said the Local Authorities (Dog Licensing and Control) by-laws 2016, applicable for all 26 local councils in the state, was enforced on Dec 1, 2018 which made it compulsory for dog owners to obtain the licence at a fee of RM30 per sterilised dog and RM90 per non-sterilised dog for the duration of three years.
